Biography: I've lived in Chicago most of my life, except for two years living in Tokyo as an English teacher. California was appealing, but my family is most important to me. Like many Hyde Parkers growing up in the 1960s, I've led a rather scrappy life and had a spotty work history. It seems I've been deliberately downwardly-mobile. It's a matter of principles and personal satisfaction. I will always be grateful I grew up in Hyde Park and I'm grateful that I went to Hyde Park H.S., despite the abysmal PE classes. The social education, the racial and economic diversity, and growing up with such quirky and interesting people is priceless.
