Biography
After graduating from Harvard in 1967 I married Barry B. White (a graduate of Harvard 1964 and Harvard Law School 1967, and began a career at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in DC and Boston; became Deputy Director of the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency 1983-1995, and then founding (and current) President of Housing Partners, Inc. in 1995. Have 3 sons, a daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters (Samantha White, born 2009 and Katherine Cleaveland "Kacie" White, born 2011).
I have served on a great many boards of directors, including Citizens Housing & Planning Association (Past President), the MA Association for Mental Healh (Past President), the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (Past Chair), American Jewish Committee-Boston Chapter (Senior V. P.), B'nai B'rith Housing New England (Member, Executive Committee), MA Housing Investment Corp (Member, Audit Committee), MassALFA (assisted living trade organization--Chair of the Statewide Task Force on Affordability in Assisted Living), and many others. I've also done a lot of lecturing at colleges and universities, as well as public speaking, and was an active policy advisor to the Obama Presidential campaign.
After 40 years of practicing law, Barry was appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate in September, 2009 as U.S. Ambassador to Norway and we moved to Oslo in October, 2009. This is a fascinating life! I am working for Housing Partners full-time from Oslo and also carrying out the role of Ambassador's spouse. Never a dull moment! Fortunately, our health and spirits are good.
When not working at one of these jobs, my main pastime is reading. I just got a Kindle, which I strongly recommend--it holds 3500 books in one little device, and downloads books wirelessly in seconds--very cool! In spite of being in outdoorsy Norway, I'm still not athletic AT ALL.
